This text aims to present an overview of the issue so as to map out the conceptual state-of-the-art and track the implementation of safe urban space projects domestically and internationally. The text is therefore divided into: a general presentation of the topic; a mapping of the main series of safe urban spaces; a description of international and domestic experience with the introduction of safe spaces; and final remarks that analyze the major lessons learned from the experiences presented. It was drafted for the Brazilian Public Safety Forum on behalf of the Ministry of Justice’s National Public Safety Secretariat, within the scope of the Partnership Agreement 752962/2010.
