FASTU Bratislava jkuat nairobi etsa madrid un habitat
International workshop in advanced urban design, focused in urban safety as starting point to a holistic, integrated and multi-level approach to a contemporary urban enviroment, a multi-sectorial tool to improve the livability of cities and quality of life for all urban residents, predicated on the confidence that good urban governance, planning and management improve the safety of neighborhoods.
It´s developed in an interactive way in 3 schools of architecture from different countries, FASTU-Bratislava, JKUAT-Nairobi and UPM-Madrid, with the support of UN-Habitat Safer Cities Programme, and financed by Slovak-Aid.
It takes place during three weeks, one in each city, with a virtual community meeting among the three schools at the end. In all the three cities, students work with the same three sites, one from each country, and design sustainable urban proposals for each of them, using safety criteria as starting point.
To promote the international collaboration among students and improve the quality of the workshop, African site (Nyeri) is part of UN-Habitat International student competition. This competition is organized in collaboration with Kenya´s Urban Development Department (UDD), and the Ministry of Land, Housing and Urban Development, and it´s part of UN-Habitat´s support to the Kenia Municipal Program under the broad framework of “Support to a Sustainable Urban Development Sector in Kenya”. Competition will exhibit a select number of the design proposals during the Habitat III Conference in Quito, Ecuador, from 17-20, October 2016. Knowledge acquired with from competition work is used in the workshop, improving its process and results.
